Privacy policy
RutaCuracao keeps the minimum it needs to work. Here is what data passes through the site, who else processes it, how long it is kept and how to ask for it to be deleted.

Who is responsible
RutaCuracao is an independent project written and maintained by Roger Pillasagua from Curaçao. For anything about your data, write to contacto@rutacuracao.com.
Reading the site
Reading the pages requires no sign-up and no personal data. As with any website, the service that hosts the site (Vercel, in the United States) receives the IP address and browser of each visit in order to serve the page and protect it from abuse. When you use the chat, leave a message or pay, our server also counts how many requests arrive from your IP address that day, to stop abuse; that counter deletes itself after 2 days. In addition, Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights count visits and measure how long each page takes to load, without cookies: they recognise a visit by a code that is discarded after 24 hours and store the page (without anything after the “?”), the country, operating system, browser and device type, not who you are.
The AI chat
- What is sent: when you ask a question, the conversation goes to our server and from there to OpenAI (United States), which generates the answer. If you saved “My data”, it travels with that same question. Under OpenAI's API terms, that data is not used to train their models and may be kept for up to 30 days to monitor abuse.
- What we keep: your latest question and its answer, to check whether the assistant answers well. Without your IP. Before keeping them we remove whatever is in “My data”, email addresses, passport or ID numbers and phone numbers, and whatever you write after “Name:”, “Address:” and the like; of a draft letter or form we don't keep the text, only that there was a draft. What you tell in your own words does stay (for example, your name if you write it loose in the question): for your details, use “My data”. If you ask the AI to check a form you filled in, what you typed goes to OpenAI with that question, but we do not keep it; nor an answer that gets cut off. The 2,000 most recent are kept; older ones are deleted automatically.
- If you vote 👍/👎: on a page we keep the vote and the page address; on a chat answer, the vote and the first 200 characters of the question it answered, from which we remove the same as from the chat log (email addresses, ID numbers, phone numbers and whatever comes after “Name:” and the like), to find out which answers fail. Without your IP (the vote only adds to the daily per-IP counter, which deletes itself after 2 days). The 5,000 most recent votes are kept.
- In your browser: the conversation is kept for 3 days in your own browser so you don't lose it when you change page. The “Clear conversation” button deletes it.
- So the free chat is not drained by abuse we count how many questions are asked from each IP per day. That counter deletes itself after 2 days.
“My data”
What you type in “My data” (name, passport, etc.) is stored only in your browser, not on our server, and only leaves it inside the questions you ask the chat. Until September 23, 2026 it was stored on the server: those copies move to your browser and are deleted from the server the first time you open the panel, and any that nobody comes to collect expire by March 22, 2027 at the latest.
“Talk to a person”
If you leave us an enquiry, we keep your name, your email or WhatsApp, the case you describe, the language and the date, only in order to reply to you. It can only be read with the administrator key and is deleted automatically after one year (and, if more than 5,000 pile up, the oldest ones); if you ask us to delete it sooner, we will. The internal notice that a new enquiry arrived contains none of that data.
Payments
Payments are made on PayPal: we never see or store your card. For each purchase we keep the PayPal order and transaction number, the pack, the amount, the date and your browser's random identifier, to credit your questions and to let you recover them if you change browser. PayPal handles your payment data under its own privacy policy. The purchase record is our sales ledger and for now it is not deleted automatically. If PayPal leaves a payment pending, that order number is kept in your browser (for up to 30 days) to check it again when you open the site. When you come back from PayPal you land on the home page and the site takes you back to the page you were on: that address is kept only in that tab of your browser, until you return.
Your browser identifier
For purchases, the site creates a random identifier in your browser that says nothing about you. It goes to PayPal with each purchase, as a reference on the order, so we know which browser to credit the questions to; it is not shared with anyone else and cannot be used to follow you on other sites.
Cookies and local storage
The site only sets cookies if you accept Google Analytics in the notice. If you accept, Google Analytics (Google, United States) stores the _ga and _ga_* cookies to count visits and learn which pages help, and records a few moments: opening the chat; sending a question and whether the answer arrived, got cut off or hit the limit; opening and sending an enquiry; starting, completing or recovering a purchase; downloading a form, opening it to fill in, downloading it filled in or asking the AI to check it (with the form's name); using or sharing the calculator (whether you are a worker or an employer); viewing the travel guide's list; playing the videos; and searches (how many results there were or how many letters it had, never what was searched). Never the text of your questions or your data. From the page address, and from the address of the page you come from, Google does not receive the nationality or countries you choose, the procedure in your document checklist or a PayPal order number. If you don't accept, nothing from Google is loaded. You can change your choice at any time from “Cookies” at the foot of every page.
Without cookies, your browser also keeps: the light or dark theme you choose, your cookie choice, how many free questions you used today and the ones you bought, the conversation (3 days), “My data”, the boxes you tick in the document checklists (with the answers about your situation and the nationality you choose), the number of a purchase PayPal has not confirmed yet (up to 30 days), the page you were on when you went to pay (only in that tab, until you return) and the random identifier. All of it lives only on your device and is removed when you clear this site's data in your browser.
Videos don't load until you press play. Then YouTube's player opens in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com, from Google, United States), which receives your IP address and may store data in your browser under Google's privacy policy.
Who else handles your data
- Vercel (United States) hosts the site and its functions and counts visits without cookies.
- Upstash (a United States company) is the server's database (Redis): it holds the per-IP counters, the chat log, the votes, the enquiries and the purchases.
- OpenAI (United States) generates the chat's answers.
- PayPal charges the question packs and receives with the order your browser identifier and the address of the home page in your language, where it takes you back after paying; not that of the page you were reading.
- Google (United States): Google Analytics, only if you accept it, and the YouTube player, only if you press play.
- Zoho (Zoho Mail) receives the emails you send us at contacto@rutacuracao.com.
- WhatsApp (Meta, United States): if you write to us at +5999 692-5640 or leave us your number in an enquiry, the conversation goes through WhatsApp. Messages are end-to-end encrypted, but Meta handles your number and the conversation data (who writes to whom and when) under its own privacy policy.
- Telegram tells us that a new enquiry arrived, without any of your data.
Your rights
You can ask what data of yours we hold, or have it corrected or deleted, by writing to contacto@rutacuracao.com. We reply within 30 days at most.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, this page is updated with the date of the revision.
