Why they ask for it
When immigration (or an airline before letting you board) asks for "proof of where you're staying," it isn't asking you to have already spent money -- it just wants a verifiable address and an implicit departure date. The problem is that a lot of people, without realizing it, pay in advance for a full reservation just to have that piece of paper, when it isn't necessary.
How to do it without paying anything
- On Booking.com or Hotels.com, filter by "free cancellation" and, if available, "no credit card needed" or "pay at the property." A huge number of places to stay in Curaçao offer this option.
- Book dates that match your entry/exit ticket.
- Print or save the confirmation on your phone -- it's a PDF with your name, address, and dates, exactly what they usually ask for.
- If your real plan is to stay with family, a friend, or move to another place: there's no problem at all in having this reservation purely as paperwork backup.
The part you do need to get right: cancel on time
Every free-cancellation reservation has a deadline (usually 24-48 hours before check-in). If you decide not to use it, cancel it BEFORE that date -- never just "not show up." Failing to show up without cancelling can trigger an automatic charge to your card, or flag your account as unreliable for future bookings.
Where the trick ends and the problem starts
This is meant to satisfy an entry-paperwork or a specific immigration-procedure requirement -- it is not a way to lie about your real address once you already have immigration status in Curaçao. If a later procedure asks for your real residential address (for example, for a stay permit or to register with Kranshi), that's when you must give your real address -- that's official data, not an entry document.
The same applies to the plane ticket
If all you need is "proof of departure" and you're not actually going to use that flight, the same logic we already explained in what they check at the border applies: book with free cancellation, not a paid ticket you later lose.
This is common-sense travel practice, not a Curaçao-specific legal instruction -- always respect each reservation's cancellation terms.
