📋 Requirements
- Proof of payment, copy of valid passport, copy of the return ticket or ticket to another destination
- Written statement explaining the reasons for the extension
- If there is a guarantor: guarantee declaration + XCG 10 stamp, copy of the guarantor's ID, proof of the guarantor's income/marital status
- If there is NO guarantor: copy of a bank/credit card with a current account statement
- Visa-required country: additionally, in medical/death/marriage cases, submit the specific supporting documentation (medical statement, death certificate, letter from Public Affairs)
- If the tourist is a minor traveling without one parent: passport of the absent parent + no-objection declaration
- Application signed and justified by the tourist themselves, with all evidence relevant to your case
- Copy of the ORIGINAL return ticket to your country of origin (or a ticket to a third country outside Curaçao)
- Copy of the entire passport (all pages)
- Guarantee declaration signed by a guarantor who is a RESIDENT of Curaçao (maximum 2 tourists per guarantor), with an XCG 10 stamp -- the guarantor is liable for ALL costs the government incurs on your behalf, including medical expenses. If the guarantor is married/in a registered partnership, their partner must also sign
- Copy of the guarantor's ID and immigration status; if it is a company, a Chamber of Commerce extract (no older than 6 months)
- Guarantor's last 3 pay slips (or tax return if it is a company)
- If you are traveling on a damaged vessel without a local guarantor: credit/debit card + statement from the last 3 months, as an alternative guarantee
🪜 Steps to apply
- 1. Prepare the justification for the extension and gather the requirements depending on whether or not you have a guarantor.
🔎 How to get this done
The 'justification' is a statement signed by you explaining which special circumstance applies to your case (your own illness, serious illness of a 1st-3rd degree family member in Curaçao, death of a family member, being 60 years of age or older, marriage on the island, or force majeure involving a vessel) -- attach the corresponding evidence (medical certificate, death certificate, etc.). If you have a local guarantor, gather their guarantee declaration + proof of income; if you do NOT have a guarantor and are traveling by vessel, gather a credit/debit card + 3-month account statement.
- 2. The application CANNOT be submitted earlier than 7 days, nor later than 5 days, before your current tourist stay ends.
🔎 How to get this done
You must calculate the exact expiration date of your tourist stay and submit your application AT LEAST 7 business days before that date (do not let that window pass) -- never submit it with less than 5 days' notice, because there won't be enough time to process it before your stay expires.
- 3. Pay XCG 525 and submit the application scanned as PDF.

- 4. Wait for the decision (no fixed deadline is guaranteed).

- 5. If positive, schedule an appointment to receive the extension stamp.

⚠️ Important notes
- CRITICAL RULE: if you have not received a response before your current tourist stay ends, the application is considered DENIED — you must leave Curaçao no later than the last day of your original stay, even if the application is still 'in process'.
- Submitting the documents does NOT guarantee approval.
- IMPORTANT: the standard period for a tourist WITHOUT a visa is only 30 DAYS for most nationalities. The 90-day (3-month) period that many people assume applies ONLY to Dutch, Belgian, and Luxembourg nationals, and nationalities with a visa-exemption treaty with the Kingdom of the Netherlands. If you are not from one of those countries, confirm your actual period before assuming 90 days. (Art. 2 Toelatingsbesluit)
- 🔑 CRITICAL (confirm the rule about waiting outside the country from another legal source): the tourist extension is NEVER granted so that you can wait in Curaçao for a decision on a residence permit. It is a completely different procedure and cannot be used as a shortcut for that.
- The extension can NEVER exceed a total of 3 months (90 days) under Art. 8(2) LTU, EXCEPT in very specific force-majeure cases (see 'special circumstances' below), where it can exceed that limit. If you need to stay longer than 3 months for an ordinary reason, do not apply for a tourist extension -- apply for a short-stay permit (up to 6 months) or a longer-duration permit (up to 1 year).
- 'Special circumstances' that CAN justify an extension (with documentary evidence): (1) your own illness with a medical certificate showing you cannot travel; (2) serious illness of a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd degree family member legally residing in Curaçao, with a medical certificate; (3) other medical reasons where traveling would endanger your life; (4) death of a 1st to 3rd degree family member residing in Curaçao (with a death certificate); (5) being 60 years of age or older; (6) marrying another tourist in Curaçao, or postponing a wedding with a legal resident of Curaçao for reasons not attributable to the couple (you must be able to show a specific appointment date at the Civil Registry); (7) force majeure involving vessels: necessary boat repairs, or hurricane season preventing departure.
- If you are missing any formal requirement, the application is in principle declared 'inadmissible', UNLESS that inadmissibility would cause you disproportionate harm relative to the interest of properly processing your extension within your current tourist period.
